A WOMAN’S CENTURY

Artist’s book | one of a kind.

A critical reflection about the Centennial Exhibition of 1876 made for an exhibition at The Athenaeum of Philadelphia. Using the corset as a launch point, it examines enslavement, industrial labor and cotton manufacturing, state orchestrated Indigenous genocide, and the rhetoric of nation-building and “progress".

Part of a larger collaboration / installation with Elysa Voshell exploring marginality & joyful deviance through the lens of the circus.

LADIES’ STYLISH WAISTS

Through the boustrophedron (how the ox plows) structure of the book, collaged and transferred images of corseted women from a vintage Sears’ catalogue are juxtaposed with a large watercolor rendition of a human spine.
